I’m falling out of style with the current way things are
The things that make conforming hard

she asked, trying to sound like she wasn’t completely bored out of her mind, though she wasn’t convinced it had actually worked. Going and getting his drink, she came back to take his order. It didn’t take her but a minute to get his order to Travis, so that he could start cooking it. Walking back to the guys table she said “Just let me know if you need anything, I’ll be over at the register, and I will get your food out to you as soon as its ready” Giving him a fake smile, she made her way back to the register to flip through an art magazine that Theodore had left.
Wednesday nights were shifts that you either hated, or loved. It was the single most slowest night of the week, seeing only about fifty customers between four and close, which was nothing compared to what this tiny diner was used to seeing. On any other given night of the week, the diner was at least three-fourths of the way full at all times, and all of the waitresses were busy at all times. Sometimes, it was almost to busy for you to even sneak away for a smoke break, if you were a smoker, which was part of the reason Charlotte was glad she wasn’t. She constantly heard the other waitresses, cooks and busboys griping about how the needed a smoke now, otherwise they were going to just simply die. Char thought it was all pretty dramatic, but then again, she never had been the one who was into smoking, drinking and drugs.
That wasn’t to say that Charlotte had never drank before, because that would be a lie if it was said. She drank occasionally, but never to the point where she got buzzed, and certainly never to the point where she got drunk. She never really saw the point in it. Why would you want to do that to your brain and body. It was the same reason why she did not understand why people would do drugs, or smoke. Drugs did nothing but horrible, terrible things to your body, such as kill brain cells, which a lot of the druggies couldn’t afford to loose anyway. Maybe she was just more mature that others her age…or older than her even.
Charlotte actually loved working Wednesday nights, surprisingly. Normally, Charlotte loved the busy shifts. It allowed her to stay focused at the task on hand, it didn’t give the other workers time to try and talk to her, and she didn’t have to try and pretend to listen…or care for that matter. She could just take orders, deliver orders, refill drinks and then collect her tip. It made for an easy and fast night with out her coming home with too bad of a headache. Though, Wednesday nights were so incredibly slow, that they only ever scheduled two waitresses, a cashier, one cook and one busboy. That meant that she only had to deal with four other people, if you didnt included the manager. Usually by seven oclock, they would send one of the waitresses home, leaving them with one person on each job, which was more than enough.
In Charlottes opinion, they really didn’t even need that many people on a Wednesday night. She could Manage, bus tables, cash people out, and waitress all at the same time. You would really only need her and a cook. On her good days, she would even say that the cook was unnecessary. But then again, it was like Charlotte to think that she could save the world by herself. She liked doing everything by herself, as most people could guess, she wasn’t much of a people person. Though when it came to customers, she could pretend…usually.
This particular Wednesday night had been excruciatingly slow, even for a Wednesday. Charlotte had clocked in at four o clock to a completely empty diner. According to her manager, Rhonda, it had been this way all day. The rest of the night hadn’t gone so well either. Rylee Parker, the other cashier who was working that night, had been sent home at six o clock, as they had only seen three customers since the shift started. At eight oclock, Kaitlyn Kinsella, the busboy, or rather…girl, had been sent home. That one kinda made Charlotte sad, as Kait was always one person who Charlotte, oddly enough, got along with. Kait could make her smile even when Charlotte didn’t feel like it.
This just left Char, Rhonda, Theodore and Travis. Charlotte sat at an empty book, rolling forks, spoons and napkins into a lovely little napkin trio. It was probably the most boring thing that a person had to do at the diner. Sure it was easy, but it wasn’t very challenging, and it was quite frankly rather boring. Though, Charlotte was kept rather entertained by Theodore and Travis, who were having a debate over what was better, Art or Music. Though Charlotte personally liked both, She had to agree that Art was much more rewarding than music was, but she wouldn’t voice her opinion on it, because really, what fun was it to argue over something so stupid.
It was about ten fifteen, meaning that Charlotte still had an hour and forty five minutes before she could lock the front door and go home. Rhonda had left it up to Char to send Theodore home if the hadn’t gotten busier, and as the last customer in the store left; Charlotte sighed and told Theodore to clock out. It was truly ridiculous. Where did all the people go on Wednesdays? It was now down to Just Charlotte, Rhonda and Travis, all of whom couldn’t leave until the doors were locked and the place was ready for open the next day. Charlotte went back to count the drawer, but lifted her head up when she heard the door open.
It was rather sad that Charlotte got so excited to see a customer. He was a younger guy, couldn’t be but a few years older than herself at the most. He was almost attractive in a ‘skater boy, I don’t give a shit’ way. She was certain he was a boy most girls probably did find very attractive. Watching him sit down in a booth, Charlotte gathered her notepad, pen, and a menu and made her way over to the table where he sat. “Hello, My name is Charlotte and I will be your waitress today. Might I start you off with a beverage tonight?”
